Industrial Laser
Auric Enterprises
Goldfinger
1964

"...it can project a spot on the moon. Or at closer range, cut through solid metal. I will show you..." stated Auric Goldfinger. 007 was at this time strapped to a slab of solid gold as Goldfinger proceeded with his demonstration. With his legs spread apart, and the laser slowly moving toward his body as it sliced easily through the gold, Bond convinced Goldfinger that MI6 was fully aware of Operation Grand Slam. Goldfinger decided that it might be in his best interest if he kept Bond alive for the time being and ordered the laser shut off in time for 007 to keep his valuables intact.

Later, as Bond involuntarily observed the proceedings of Operation Grand Slam, he discovered the real purpose for the laser. Goldfinger's hired help used the laser to cut through the massive steel doors guarding the entrance to the gold vault at Fort Knox.

This model was simple since almost everything is made up of cylinders. The black rings have a bit of a bevel, which was easily done in the Free Form Modeler, and the cap at the base of the laser was also accomplished with the same tool. The spirals were made from a circular cross section then extruded with the spiral extrusion tool.

I would still like to model the arm attached to the laser when it is used at Auric Enterprises and the turret it is mounted to at Fort Knox.
